Enviromental protection

Ecology = enviromental protection

Civilization's products pollute and damage the enviroment in which we live. Pollution affects air, water, land, forest, people, animal and plants.
Air pollution is the biggest problem in large cities and in areas with concentrated industrial production. Emissions range from smoke, dust and lorry exhaust. Smoke contains suplhur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide, which is also produced by coal-burning power stations and by burning fossil fuels. These substances mixed with with water vapour in the atmosphere make acids. When the sun shines, the acid change into poisonous oxidants which fall in the form of rain, so-called acid rain, what actually kill the trees. And trees are very important because of being the lungs of the Earth. They absorb carbon dioxide and give out oxygen in return. However, the tropical forests in Africa, South America and Asia are not threatened by pollution, but by people. The great rain forests are beying destroyed for firewood, building material and to get new farm plots.
Greenhouse effect is caused by several gases, produced by people. And although without the greenhouse effect could be no life on our planet, because the Earth is warmed up naturally by the atmosphere which traps solar radiation, the manmade gases prevent the heat from escaping. The result is a rise in the Earth's temperature, the melting of arctic ice and the flooding of area situated near sea level.
Ozone is another ait pollutant that contributes to the greenhouse effect at lower atmospheric levels. But on other hand, ozone forms a layer in tzhe upper atmosphere which protects life on Earth from ultraviolet rays, which is a cause of skin cancer.

Solutions:
People should use more alternative sources of energy, such as solar in Greek, water in Norland, Switzerland, Canda or Sweden, then wind in Netherlands, geothermal in New Zealand or Island and tidal energies in France.
We should support public transport and switch freight from roads to railways.
Cars are filled with catalytic converters in their exhaust system which turn dangerous gases into carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water vapour.
All cars run on unleaded petrol.

Water pollution results from pesticides and other chemicals like fertilizers used in agriculture, from substandart sewage treatment plants and from ships. Concentration of heavy metal is increasing. Nitrate can pollute inland water by leaching from farmland. Much of this comes deom fertilizer use.
Soil can be contaminated as a result of industrial waste and because most of domestic rubbish is disposed of in landfills. In many case landfills can be avoided by re-using, recycling or energy recovery. From the waste material. There are containers for different kinds of rubbish which should be sorted - plastic containers, paper containers or glass containers. Also the domestic rubbish should be sorted out - kitchen garbage and garden waste can be composted and turned into fertilizer from natural decay.
And it is wrong to litter but many people still do it. In my opinion there should be more stict ban and higher fines for dumping waste.
Enviromental protection should also include animal and plant protection because these have also been affected by human activities. Some species must be protected, because they are close to extinct. Other are bred in captivity for release in the wild so they have the best chance or survival. The establishing of National Parks and natural reserves provide protection, and also provide opportunities for outdoor recreation. Contaminated land sites are reclaimed and turned into parks, where are planted new trees and proteced the older ones. So-called green belt have been established around major cities in Britain like London, Edinburg and Manchaster to provide some place for recreation.
